Há alguns meses atrás, Mark Ontkush escreveu um artigo sobre a economia que poderia ser feita se a página do Google
possuísse um fundo preto em vez de branco.
Quando o monitor está todo branco o computador consome cerca de 74 watts. Quando está todo preto, utiliza, em média, 59 watts.
Tendo em conta a popularidade do Google, seriam economizados muitos megawatts por ano.
Em resposta a isto, o Google criou uma versão toda escura chamada Blackle.com, que funciona exactamente como a versão original mas consome menos energia.
